I am excited to be part of the staff here at Hoyt Middle School. I was raised in the Cedar Rapids area, but I have many family ties to the East Side of Des Moines. I am very passionate about being a special education teacher because I grew up in a household with a sister who has autism. She has positively impacted my life and has made me a better, stronger individual.
Before coming to Hoyt, I’ve gotten to be a part of many amazing programs during my college education. The most influential programs I took part of were Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Kids On Course, AmeriCorps, Best Buddies International, Strong Girls (a book club just for girls to read books about strong, inspiring women), and the Arc of East Central Iowa.
Outside of school, I enjoy being with my family, reading lots of books, and spoiling my pets.

I am a Des Moines native and I love calling Iowa my home state. I also love to travel as often as possible. What’s my favorite destination so far? That would be a tie between New Zealand and Tahiti. Growing up, I attended Greenwood, Hubble, and Fairmeadows Elementary Schools, Stillwell Jr. High and Valley High School. I graduated from Graceland University and currently hold a position on the Alumni Board of Directors. I very rarely read a book just once. When I am not at Hoyt, I can be found hanging out with my family, in a bookstore or at Target; I might need a Target intervention.
