I am extremely excited to be a part of the Hoyt Middle School Extended Core team! I am passionate about the arts, equity and student voice – which is very evident if you visit my classroom. I grew up in Des Moines Public schools and am fortunate to serve the same district that provided so much for me as a student. I live in Altoona with my husband, son and two dogs. I am active within Movement 515 as Hoyt’s Half Pint Poetry coach, a program in which students will increase literacy skills but more importantly find their voice, speak their truth and spread love throughout our community.

I have taught at Hoyt Middle School since 2012. I work with our 6-8 grade students who participate in band, orchestra, and jazz band. I enjoy teaching music as it gives the students something to look forward to. I strive every day to get the best out of every student who is willing to put forth the effort that is needed to be a successful musician. My wife, Amanda is also in education. She is currently the TLC Instructional coach with the ADM school district. We have two boys, Carson and Caleb. We love to spend our free time being together as a family. Many weekends we can be found at the ball fields as both boys play baseball. During the summer we love to travel, camp around the DSM area, and hang out at the water park in Adventureland.
